Team Canada and their fans are still dissecting last night's loss to the United States 3-1 where former NHL defenceman Chris Pronger made the case for inserting Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard.
He explained with the loss of
Cale Makar and
Shea Theodore; Team Canada had a tough time setting up its transition game which would be helped with Bouchard in the lineup.
Bouchard would help Team Canada offensively
Canada really missed not only Cale Makar but Shea Theodore as well although
Thomas Harley played very well under the circumstances. The transition game in these best on best settings is important. They allow the stars up front to get the puck in advantageous areas of the ice - Chris Pronger
Bouchard was one of several defensemen who were not chosen to be on Team Canada and many felt that that was a mistake. The 25-year-old defender who stands at six foot 3 and 192 lbs with certainly gives the team more physicality and would help offensively.
Through 55 games this season, he has scored nine goals with 35 assists for 44 points and is a + 21. Despite his slow start, he has really picked up the pace and is beginning to trend upward as through his last five games this season, he's had seven points including one goal in six assists.
Team Canada to face off against Finland on Monday
With the loss to the United States, Canada now faces Finland on Monday as the team attempts to stamp its ticket to the finals against America. Many feel Canada still has a strong chance to win this tournament even though the United states has shown they have become deeply talented on all facets of the game.
Canada will need to stick to their game plan and knockout Finland as the series now shifts to Boston where the finals will take place on February 20th.
