The NHL's decision to cancel the all star game in favour of international hockey with the 4 Nations Faceoff has been a smash success, but Connor McDavid thinks it can be even better.

Connor McDavid has been a major proponent of the NHL bringing back international hockey this year and through his career, and he's continuing that effort with his new comments.

Connor McDavid loves 4 Nations Faceoff, but advocates for more teams to be added

As per Connor McDavid, the only problem with the 4 Nations Faceoff is that there isn't enough of it - there needs to be more countries participating, meaning more games too.
I'd like to see all countries represented. It's great that it's best on best, it's 4 Nations, it's been really exciting, but there's some great players sitting at home. If we want it to be the biggest stage in the world, then we need everybody involved.

I think the league announcement of the World Cup is really exciting. I'm not sure you could do this every year but it goes to show how much guys care about playing for their country, how much pride they play with wearing that jersey.

One perfect example of a superstar player sitting at home is the German Gretzky, Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers forward clearly wanted to participate in an international best on best with his country, but the restriction of 4 Nations kept Germany, Russia, and many more competing teams.
Both Coach Knoblauch and Canada coach Jon Cooper both specifically mentioned Draisaitl's absence from the tournament has a big miss for the league. He's an elite player, as McDavid said, that's just sitting at home.

World Cup of Hockey will be far improved 4 Nations Faceoff

Luckily for McDavid and Draisaitl, their concerns will be answered with the recently announced World Cup of Hockey in 2028.
The new World Cup will involve 8 teams and will surely involve more games, giving more player an opportunity to play and more electric international hockey for fans to watch. It's fantastic news that the NHL is moving back towards best in best, and it's even possible Edmonton could host the games.
Although it's still not perfect, Connor McDavid and pretty much everyone else in hockey is thrilled with the success of the 4 Nations Faceoff. It'll end with an incredible game between Team Canada and USA tomorrow night, for all the bragging rights.
