The Edmonton Oilers organization is gearing up for the NHL trade deadline and it appears that Oilers forward Viktor Arvidsson Has emerged as a cap dump trade candidate since the team has made their decision on Jeff Skinner.

The team had high hopes for both players as they had signed them during last summer's off season in hopes that both could give the team more offensive punch and veteran leadership.

Jeff Skinner to remain an Oiler according to Stan Bowman

This was not the case as both players have struggled at times throughout the season. The Oilers became quite frustrated with the play of Jeff Skinner recently that he was made a healthy scratch which ignited his game and he has played well ever since.
General manager Stan Bowman has recently said that Skinner will remain with the team as he has shown a willingness to work through his issues and become a stronger player going down the stretch.
I don't envision that being the case. He's shown the real willingness to work through things with our group, and I commend him on that. He's had a really great attitude the entire time I suppose things can always change, but that's not the focus right now for Jeff.
- Stan Bowman

Arvidsson likely to be traded at trade deadline

Arvidsson who has been a bonafide player in the NHL throughout his career likely could need a change of scenery and be traded to another contender. The 31-year-old left winger has played 40 games this year, scoring seven goals with 11 assists for 18 points and is a + 7.
These numbers are certainly not flattering but could help a team that's looking for depth scoring. Arvidsson does not hold any trade protection compared to Skinnerwho has a full no movement clause.
This would make him likely expendable to the Oilers as the team is looking to upgrade their offence at the deadline and using Arvidsson as part of a bigger deal maybe the only way to move him.
He currently holds a cap hit of $4 million per season and has one year remaining on this deal which would likely see some money retention if a trade can be worked out.
Oilers fans will only have a few weeks to wait as there will be seven games remaining between the end of the Four Nations Faceoff and the trade deadline. It's safe to say, that general manager Stan Bowman is working away attempting to craft deals and prepare them for announcement.
