As the Four Nations faceoff enters its second day of competition, it appears that the Boston Bruins are preparing to move their top longtime forward Brad Marchand to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney who is also the general manager of Team Canada has been taking calls from teams of interest especially the Golden Knights. An NHL executive told James Murphy at RG that the Bruins are listening to offers and may entertain them as the NHL trade deadline draws closer.
Golden Knights looking to hold trade talks with Bruins
It wouldn't be a trade deadline if the Vegas Golden Knights would not be linked to a major trade rumor. General manager Kelly McCrimmon always finds a way to make a big splash during this time which always puts the Golden Knights in the mix for the Stanley Cup.
A well-placed source confirmed that the Vegas Golden Knights will be another serious trade suitor for Marchand. The Knights are said to be awaiting word from Boston before engaging in any serious trade talks, but an answer is expected soon. - James Murphy, RG
No contract talks or extension is telling about Marchand's fate
Many have believed that if the Boston Bruins cannot find a way to turn their season around and try to stick themselves back into the playoff picture, the Bruins would likely trade Marchand much like Colorado traded Mikko Rantanen as they were unable to come to a contract agreement.
«They're getting calls on [Marchand], and teams are wondering what they're going to do here, but, at this point, I think they're just listening,» an NHL executive source told RG. «Still, the fact that the Bruins or Marchand haven't come right out and squashed this like they have in the past is telling. With things also being so quiet on contract talks, it tells you this is getting real.» NHL Executive
"I think I'd feel very weird...probably a little lost...I don't really think about it cause it's not something that I really see happening"
Marchand spoke to the media and downplayed the talks and rumors and has felt that he just needs to take things day by day and see how everything pans out period
«The only thing we can do is focus day-to-day,» Marchand said almost two weeks ago. «They're going to do what they feel is necessary for the team. All we can do is worry about our play. We can't control any decision that is going to be made.
I'm not really worried about what's being said in the media. At the end of the day, like I said, they're going to make the decisions for the group they feel necessary. I have no control over that, so I'm going to worry about what's going on here. Playing for this group. As long as I'm here on the Boston Bruins, that's all I'm worrying about.» Brad Marchand
