With the NHL playing their first international games in almost 10 years, the pressure is on from fans for their players to perform - which has led to some harsh criticism for Nathan MacKinnon's play in overtime against Sweden.

Team Canada and Sweden played an extended 3 on 3 overtime period that saw Nathan MacKinnon zip up and down the ice taking multiple shots, but never converting.

In overtime, Nathan MacKinnon incredibly had 5 different rushes up the ice with Connor McDavid as his linemate, and MacKinnon was the one to fire every shot.
Some fans, plenty from the Oilers, thought MacKinnon was going too hard to end the game by himself.
There were more than a few instances where MacKinnon advanced to take on multiple defenders himself or look off a pass to get a shot off on his own. One Oilers fan detailed out exactly how he thought MacKinnon made poor decisions on each rush.
1st Rush: Goes 1 on 3 when he can wait for support
2nd Rush: Fine with a shot here
3rd Rush: Rushes up the ice alone with McDavid revving up behind him
4th: Looks off a pass, cuts back and goes 1 on 3 again while his linemates are changing
5th: Shoots on a 2 on 1

On the other hand, Oilers analyst Jason Gregor defended MacKinnon's decisions in overtime. To his point, MacKinnon has game breaking talent that could have won it for Canada, and you can't to fault a star for trying.
The answer probably lies somewhere in between. MacKinnon should be given the reign to take an opportunity to score on an individual effort, but perhaps not all 5 rushes in overtime were the best decision either. There were opportunities to use his teammates, and it's not like McDavid can't be trusted with the puck.
There's some adjustment to playing on such a stacked roster like Team Canada, that reading into the results of their first game in almost 10 years is pretty much impossible. after being warmed up though, Canada will be in for a major test next against the USA.
